Kawartha Lakes home sales running even with last year in September
Residential home sales recorded through the MLS® system for the Kawartha Lakes Real Estate Association Inc. totaled 134 units in September 2019. This was unchanged from September 2018, which was a noticeable rebound following a quiet month of August.
On a year-to-date basis, home sales totalled 1,102 units over the first nine months of the year, an increase of 10.2% from the same period in 2018.
There were 230 new residential listings in September 2019, edging up 3.6% (eight listings) on a year-over-year basis to reach a four-year high for the month.
Overall supply is up from the extreme lows seen in late 2016 and early 2017 but is still at below-average levels. Active residential listings numbered 567 units at the end of September, an increase of 13.4% from the end of September 2018.
Months of inventory numbered 4.2 at the end of September 2019, up from the 3.7 months recorded at the end of September 2018 but below the long-run average of 6.4 months for this time of year. The number of months of inventory is the number of months it would take to sell current inventories at the current rate of sales activity.
